Elizabeth and Jorn left their native countries of Ireland and Denmark twenty- three and twenty-seven years ago respectively. They have both traveled to and lived in many countries but for the past thirteen years have made the seaside town of Hua Hin in Thailand their home.
Working as a duo for many years Elizabeth and Jorns’ artistic collaboration is based upon shared inspirations and similar aesthetic ideas. Inspiration for their figures comes from things as diverse as mythological beings, ancient artistic artifacts and of course the world around them.
Even now in our technological world, myths and archetypes that have inspired the creators of beautiful objects for thousands of years have the power to evoke images, sensations and joy in the continuity of life. The quirky magic of the ancient legends that is part of the inspiration for their work enables them to bring to it a subtle humour.
Elizabeth and Jorn usually produce the originals of their sculptures in plaster, or wax, these are then cast in bronze using the lost wax process. The final cast sculpture is either colored with a patina or gilded by Elizabeth and Jorn with gold or silver leaf which they age, thus many of their pieces seem to capture the enduring attraction of antiquities that have been caressed by time.
