Jittiwut Sriyang is 25 years old from Korat, Thailand and studied
at the Faculty of Fine Art in Chiang Mai. He graduated in 2003.
Although he now lives here, he maintains an ambition to observe
the Chiang Mai lifestyle as an outsider and to paint his view
of the happier side of life – the joy, the fun, the
ladyboys, the festivals, the ’sanuk’ – all
in a colourful and semi-abstract way. However, some of his paintings might look happy but have a degree of social commentary and criticism in them, and he does not shy away from issues such as rape, suicide and corruption.
His style is unique, but some of his paintings could lead
to the conclusion that Dali must be his favourite master.
Jittiwuts technique is acrylic and crayon on canvas.
After working a while as a free-lance photographer painting only in his free time, Jittiwut now spends most of his time painting. . His ambition is to save enough money
to study for a master degree in arts.
La Luna chose this young and definitely soon famous
artist as one of three featuring more prominently during the
opening months of the gallery. In December 2004, La Luna Gallery organised a solo exhibition with Jittiwuts paintings called "Dancing with Pigeons - Chiang Mai from the other side".
